What is a chair massage, and what do I wear?

A chair massage is a 5-20 minute treatment and is performed fully clothed. Unlike table massage, oils and lotions are not used (with perhaps the exception of the neck and hands). Therefore, this modality is best performed when the skin is covered by clothing, in order to avoid any discomfort due to friction against the skin. The therapist provides treatment of the head, neck, shoulders, back, arms and hands to help relieve symptomatic effects of work-related stress. The massage is performed on a specialized portable massage chair that allows you to sit in a comfortable and ergonomically sound position while you receive treatment. Minimal jewelry is recommended in order to achieve the most optimum treatment results.

How much space is required for a chair massage?

Chair massage requires very little space. A modest 6’x 6’ space per therapist provides ample working space. A small office or conference room will allow more privacy. Keep in mind, the quality of space provided will enhance the experience, so broom closets are discouraged. :-) In addition, please make sure the therapist has access to the space at least 20-30 minutes prior to their first appointment, so they have ample set up time. Also, make sure the space is not being used immediately following the event, so the therapist has a few moments to pack up and exit the room.

Are gratuities or tips accepted?

Gratuities are never expected, but are always received with a BIG SMILE!

I’ve never received a massage before, will it hurt?

Whether receiving a massage on a chair, or a traditional table massage, it is the therapists responsibility to make sure you are comfortable and enjoying the entire experience. You can expect your therapist to check in with you occasionally to ensure your comfortable. However, please do not hesitate to inform your therapist at any time if you are experiencing any discomfort.

Are there instances when I should not receive a massage?

Most healthy people are able to receive massage. However, there are some medical conditions that may require modifications, or make massage inadvisable. Conditions include fever, uncontrolled diabetes, uncontrolled hypertension, fractures/breaks, disc herniations, malignancy and numbness or tingling in any part of the body. Be sure to inform your massage therapist of any health conditions you may have prior to your session.

I was scheduled from 12:00 - 12:10, why did I only get 8 minutes on the chair?

Each chair massage session requires a two minute window of time to transition from one person to the next. This two minute window allows the therapist to properly say goodbye to their last participant, properly sanitize the chair, and greet the next person in line. When scheduling your event, our event coordinator will work with you to decide exactly how much total chair-time is desired, and we will create a schedule to reflect your expectations.
